Dausa District is a District of Rajasthan state in western India. The city of Dausa is the District headquarters. Dausa District has a population of 1,316,790 (2001 census), an area of 3429 km², and a population density of 384 persons per km² with 62.75 % literacy rate. It is bounded on the north by Alwar District, on the northeast by Bharatpur District, on the southeast by Karauli District.
The district is divided into five tehsils, Baswa, Dausa, Lalsot, Mahwa and Sikrai. The Sawa and Ban Ganga rivers run through the district. It is situated on National Highway no.11 From Jaipur to Agra.
It is 100 km to the east of Jaipur. Dausa is named after a nearby hill called Devgiri.On the top of hill is situated a fort, built by Badgujar Kings, who were the orininal rulers of this place. Later, Dausa was given by Chauhans to Kachwahas, but the centre of their power shifted to Amber.

When Akbar went to do Jiyarat to Khwaja Muinudin Chistti in 1562, he stayed in Dausa and met with Rupsi Baragi, Hakim of Dausa at the time and brother of Bharmal.Agriculture is the main occupation of the people of Dausa. The main crops of the district are wheat, bajra, rapeseed, mustard and groundnuts.
History:
Dausa is the capital of a small district of the same name. Its history is linked with that of Amber's as it was here that the Kachhawaha Rajputs coming from central India dropped anchor. This happened in 1037 AD, when the Rajput, Duleh Rai, annexed the land from the tribe of Susawat Minas and made Dausa his capital city.

Abhaneri is famous for its Post-Gupta or early medieval monuments. It is situated at about 33 Kms from the district headquarter towards Bandikui. The Chand Baori (Step Well) and Harshat Mata Temple are the important places to visit. The temple is an excellent example of intricate carving on stone whereas the Baori has stairs with unparallel artistic and architectural beauty. Some of the popular places of interests in Dausa are Mehandipur Balaji temple, Mataji Ka Mandir, Nilkanth Mahadev Temple and the Temples dedicated to Lord Shiva.
ABHANERI
Abhaneri, in the Dausa district of Rajasthan, used to be an important village in the ancient times. The sculpture and architecture suggest that it must have been a great centre of arts. But the flourishing town was ruined by none other than the early 11th century plunderer Mahmud Ghazni in one of his invasions (see Historyof Delhi for more on Ghazni.)

BHANDAREJ
Bhandarej is famous for walls, sculptures, decorative lattice work, terracotta utensils etc found in excavation. It is situated at about 10 Kms from the district headquarter towards Sikandra on NH-11. The Bhandarej Baori (Step Well) and Hotel Bhadravati Palace are important places to visit. The Baori is a magnificent architectural creation and has 150 wide steps going towards the main well, approximately 70 feet in width.
The Palace is an interesting blend of both Mughal and Rajput architecture having courtyards, arched windows and traditionally painted verandahs. Bhandarej Baodi or step well is a five story baodi ,also known as Badi Baori. It is a magnificent architectural creation. There are 150 wide steps going towards the main well, approximately 70 feet in width. On both sides, the five storeys have rest rooms and these afford complete privacy to the local population when using the water. On the both sides, there are large crescent shaped arches which add glory to the structure.
KHAWARAOJI
Khawaraoji is famous for residence of the then rular Raoji and natural beauty. It is situated at about 25 Kms from the district headquarter towards Sikrai. Though, it has typical way to reach this place, the fort like residence is converted into the Khawaraoji Heritage Hotel. Surrounded by hills at the three sides, and having Amol Ghati nearby with natural beauty, this place has worth to visit by tourists.
Dulha Rai : The Valorous King
Dulha Rai, the real conqueror of Dhundhar, was a youth of remarkable beauty and valour and hence got his name “Dulha Rai” or the “bridegroom prince”. His fame attracted to his banners, the voluntary support of all the spirited chiefs in the neighborhood . Dulha married the daughter of Ralhansi, half the share of the fort of Dausa (and its adjacent area), which his father-in-law owned.
The other half belonged to a Bargujar family. After securing half of Dausa Fort by marriage, Dulha Rai, with the armed help of his wife's kinsmen and no small amount of chicanery, expelled the Bargujars from their portion of Dausa, and that city became the first capital of the Kachhawahs in Dhundhar land.

Location
The district is situated in the eastern part of Rajasthan and lies between 26.23 degree to 27.15 degree North Latitude and 76.07 degree to 77.02 degree East Longitude.
Rail Network
The district is well connected by Rail route. The important trains having stoppage at Dausa district are 2915-Asharm Express, 2414-Jammu Jaipur Express, Jaipur Gwalior Intercity Express, Jaipur Amritsar Express and 2461-Mandor Express. District has also one important railway station, namely, Bandikui Junction Road distances
Road distances
NH-11 passes through the district. It covers about 85 Kms in the district which includes district headquarter, Sikandra and Mahwa. Dausa is 55 Kms from Jaipur on NH-11 and well connected with Agra, Delhi and other surrounding districts viz. Karouli, Sawai Madhopur and Bharatpur by road.
Further, NH-11A also passes through the district covering Dausa & Lalsot Tehsil regions. RIDCOR has completed one mega highway, namely Alwar to Sikandra (81 Kms) and working on second mega highway i.e.,Lalsot to Kota (195 Kms) for completion at the earliest. Very soon, the district will have four-lane facility on NH-11.

Total area of Dausa district is 3404.78 sq.kms. which is 0.99% of the area of the state. The district has total population of 13,17,063 out of which 1,35,818 are in Urban area and 11,81,245 are in Rural area as per Census 2001.Police Circles There are 4 Police Circles, 13 Police Stations and 15 Police Choukies in the district to manage law and order position of the district with Superintendent of Police ( SP ) as district head.
