Alwar is a nice mix of the old and the new, the green and the dry. Lying on the fringes of the Aravalli Range in eastern Rajasthan, the place looks as if it has been carved out of jagged, craggy rocks. The princely state of Alwar came up only in the late 18th century when the once mighty Mughal Empire was breathing its last. On the other hand, Alwar is ancient too
The region boasts of one of the oldest sites in the country – Viratnagar – associated with the Pandava brothers of the Mahabharata fame. and that was somewhere around 1500 BC!
Alwar, the capital of this ancient state, is a bustling industrial centre today. It is also one of Delhi's satellite towns. (37km). Though not a bigshot like Jaipur or Udaipur, Alwar does boast of many beautiful monuments like the City Palace, Bala Quila and Moosi Maharani ki Chhatri.Alwar etc.

The Tomb of Fateh Jung (1647AD) is a local landmark, with a huge dome and internal ornamental plasterwork in low relief.There's another one – the Tomb of Tarang Sultan (mid-17th century) – which is also known as the Tripolia. CLIMATE:
Alwar has temperate climate and scanty rainfall. The summers are hot but not as much as other cities of Rajasthan. Temperature ranges between 28ºC to 41ºC. Winters are cool and pleasant with a temperature range of 8ºC to 23ºC.

Surrounded by Aravalli hills, the erstwhile state of Mewat, Alwar is crowned by a magnificent fort that has been a witness to many-a-battles and wars in the turbulent history of Alwar. A Rajput state for a long time, its nearness to the Mughal capital of Delhi, did not let the city rest in peace until it went into the hands of the Muslims in the 12th and 13th centuries.
Alwar found its place in Mahabharata, where it has been mentioned as the kingdom of Matsya, which was once a hiding place for Pandavas during their exile for thirteen years. In 1771 A.D. Maharaja Pratap Singh, a hero belonging to a Kuchhwaha Rajput (warrior class) clan of the rulers of Jaipur.
Apart from the tiger-like Rajput soldiers, Alwar is also home to the real tigers (which can be seen in the wildlife sanctuary nearby) due to its rich natural woods, splendid lakes and valleys.

Sariska Tiger Reserve: Hot Attraction
The Sariska Tiger Reserve is a renowned Wildlife Sanctuary situated among the Aravalli hills in the Alwar district of Rajasthan state. One of the most visited parks in India - Sariska National Park was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1958 and came under the "Project Tiger" as a tiger reserve in 1979.
A famous tiger sanctuary established under the project tiger.Held in the memory of the revered Sufi saint Khawaja Moinuddin Chishti, it is an occasion for thousands of believers to congregate at the shrine and offer their prayers. All of Ajmer seems to take on a festive air and several programs are organized to mark the festivals.

The sanctuary is noted for its varied population of tigers, nilgai sambhars, cheetals, four horned antelopes and wild boarsIt also boasts of Sariska palace, built by Maharaja Jai Singh in the honor of the Duke of Edinburgh when he visited the sanctuary. Now, it has been converted into a heritage hotel. Tourists flock to the reserve in large numbers as the region is easily accessible from major cities like Delhi and Jaipur
Vinay Vilas Mahal
Vinay vilas, The palace belongs to 18th century and is an exquisite example of the pleasant amalgamation of the Rajput and the Mughal architecture styles. Now, the ground floor of the palace houses government offices and district courts while the upper part of the palace serves as a well-preserved museum. Vinay vilas is the palace complex which is situate below the fort and some of its parts have been converted into a Government office. The Palace dates back to 18 the centuary and is a perfect combo of Rajput and Mughal architecture.
Situated just below the fort, the palace complex is a large and imposing one with massive gates. Vinay Vilas Palace is a glorious blend of Rajput and Mughal styles of architecture. Maharaja Bakhtawar Singh built most of it in 1793, later added on by his successors. The checkered Central Courtyard is where marble pavilions are set on lotus bases and walls lined with canopied balconies.
Gardens:
Purjan Vihar (Company Garden)
Purjan Vihar (Company Garden). The lush cool shades make it hard to believe that it is so close to the Great Indian Desert. Laid by Maharaja Shiv Dan Singh in 1868, the garden was once watered by a channel from the Siliserh Sagar 10km away (see Siliserh). However, the duct is no longer functional.
The Company Garden even has a pretty nook called Shimla which was a later addition by Maharaja Mangal Singh in 1885. We don't know why it was called Shimla; it may have had something to do with the British. After all, it was too the hill station Shimla where they all rushed to when the heat of the plains got too much.
Adjoining the palace is a beautiful garden The idyllic picnic spot in summers, Purjan Vihar is a picturesque garden that has been planned and set up under the rule of Maharaja Shiv Dan Singh in 1868.

By Air: The nearest airport to Alwar is situated in Jaipur. Jaipur is well connected to all the major cities which includes Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta, Jodhpur, Udaipur. Recently, flights to Dubai has also started from Ajmer by Indian Airlines.
By Train: You can find a train to Alwar from all the major cities of India. From Delhi, you can catch Shatabdi Express, Intercity Express and Mandore Express. Fairy Queen Express, the train that makes your trip a fairy tale experience, includes Alwar on its itinerary list.
By Bus: Alwar is well connected by the network of roads to Delhi and all the major cities of Rajasthan. (143 km) and Delhi(164 km).
WHERE TO EAT:
Alwar has famous restaurants that serve you with pure vegetarian food (that excludes even onion and garlic) and organically grown vegetables.Palang Torh or the milk cake of Alwar is a delicious dessert that one would not like to miss. Though the restaurants may not have just the right kind of client dealing manner but the mouth-watering delicacies like allu parathas (a type of bread stuffed with potatoes), oil free gaajar ka halva (carrot dessert), mirchi ka achaar (chilli pickle) and kheer (a preparation of milk and rice) make up for their rustic hospitality.
