Situated in the south-eastern India, Prakasam is an administrative district in Andhra Pradesh. The district headquarters are located at Ongole. It is one of the nine coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh. According to the 2001 census, the total area of Prakasam District is 17626sq.km.
The population in Prakasam is 3054.94(in thousands), in accordance to the census done in 2001. The Literacy Rate of Prakasam is 57.86%.

Previously known as Ongole, this district was renamed as Prakasam in order to pay homage to the great patriot and Andhra Leader, Tanguturi Prakasam Panthulu, also known as Andhra Kesari (Lion of Andhra) who was born in Kanuparthi village of this district. Gundla Brahmeswaram Wildlife Sanctuary
Gundla Brahmeswaram Wildlife Sanctuary is located about 30 km from Nandyal and is on the border between Kurnool and Prakasam districts.
Gundla Brahmeswaram Sanctuary occupies an area of over 1194 sq km and is covered by mixed deciduous forests. It is situated on Gundla Brahmeshwaram plateau running south to north of the Nallamallai hill range. The wildlife include tiger, panther, sloth bear, wild dog, hyena, jungle cat, langur, bonnet monkey, pangolin, sambar, nilgai, chowsinga, chinkara, mouse deer, monitor lizard, python and marsh crocodile.
Best time to visit is from October to May. Tourists can stay at the forest guesthouse in Nandyal
Gundla Brahmeswaram Sanctuary lies between Kurnool and Prakasam districts, This sanctuary has mixed deciduous forests of Teak, Prerocarpuss, Terminalia, Albizzia, Anogeissius, Dalbergia, Boswelia, Shisham, Andug & Bamboo. It is situated on Gundla Brahmeshwaram plateau running south north of the Nallamallai hill range, with cuts and broken hill ranges, valleys and plateau's. A perennial river by name 'Gundlakamma', crosses through the sanctuary. The sanctuary presents a varied habitat for wild life.
Vodarevu Beach
Vodarevu Beach is located at about 6-km from Chirala, in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh. It is a beautiful beach with a constant inflow of tourists spending their weekends in serene setting. Singarayakonda, 200 years ago, at the time of erection of “Dwajastambam” in Varaha Narasimha Swamy temple, a saint installed Prasannajaneya swamy statue. Here, in 1918 a bridge was constructed over 'Bhasanti' river. The grand Brahmotsavalu celebrations held in June every year attracts a large number of devotees. Chandavaram
Chandavaram, Located at 75 km from Ongole, a major Buddhist site has been excavated here on a hillock known locally as Singarakonda, beside the Gundlakamma rivulet. A unique double terraced stupa on the hilltop, perhaps the only one of its kind in South India, is reminiscent of the famous Dharajaka stupa.
A museum at the site houses important sculptures and other relics such as coins, black and red ware and inscriptions in the Brahmi script dating back to the 2nd century B.C. The place is connected by road.
