Penna Ahobilam
 

Situated near Anantapur, Penna Ahobilam is renowned for its Lord Narasimha Swamy Temple. The shrine presents a beautiful vista of the bubbling rivulet of Pennar. According to the legends, the temple was constructed on the footprints of Lord Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy that measured 5 feet 3 inches.

 

Prominent place for marriage ceremonies, this temple observes an ostentatious car festival every year. Adi Laxmi Devi Temple and Chenchu Laxmi Devi Temple are two other temples in the complex.

 
 
Penukonda Fort
 

Penukonda Fort is a colossal structure, whose each and every stone boasts of the royalty of the erstwhile era. Penukonda is a small town in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh. In the ancient times, it used to serve as the second capital to the Vijayanagar kings. Perched atop the hill, the fort offers a spectacular view of the town below. It was named after its native region. Located at a distance of 70 km from Anantapur,

Penukonda Fort can be found on the Kurnool-Bangalore Road.

 
Gooty Fort

 

Gooty is a small town, known for embracing one of the oldest forts of Andhra Pradesh. At a distance of 52 kms from Anantapur city, the fort is a prime attraction for tourists. Above the plains in Gooty, the impregnable fort is perched at a height of 300 meters amidst hills. The Fort has been granted the title of 'World Heritage Site'

 

Though the exact construction date of the citadel is not known, some chronological events throw light on the times of yore. Written in Kannada and Sanskrit, the earliest inscriptions found in the structure date back to the 7th century.

 
One inscription of 'Bukka' refers to the Vijayanagar kings as the 'Kings of Forts'. The historical accounts record that the fort was captured by Mir Jumla and then came under the sway of Qutub Shahi chiefs. In 1773, it was captured by Haider Ali and fell into the British hands in the long run
 
Lepakshi Temple
 
Lepakshi is actually a small village that is situated in the east of Hindupur, which falls under the Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh. This settlement is famous for its artistic temples, which date back to the 16th century. A striking specimen of the Vijayanagar style of architecture is the Lepakshi Temple. It has a huge complex where three shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu and Lord Virabhadra are to be found. Lord Virabhadra is the wrathful form of Shiva, the patron deity of the Nayak rulers.
Best Time To Visit


Lepakshi is a good place to visit anytime throughout the year, though summers are hot and humid. The best time therefore to visit Lepakshi would be between November and March.
