Tata Indica Xeta V2

Tata Motors Limited one of the primary players in the passenger car segment, launched Indica in December 1998. Within a week of its launch it crossed one lakh bookings and rose up to be the number one car in the passenger category. Though touted as an indigenous car, the outer body was designed by an Italian automobile design house I.DE.A (Institute of Development in Automobile Engineering). Initial customer feedback on mileage and efficiency aspects led to re-engineered versions of Indica in the form of Indica V1 and later Indica V2.Though the diesel version of Indica was widely popular, the petrol version – Indica Petrol V2 MPFI wasn’t a success. XETA is the acronym for “eXtra fuel Efficiency, Torque Advantage” engine.

Tata Motors wanted to relinquish the image of a diesel carmaker and launched Indica V2 Xeta in January 2006 as an effort to firmly establish its brand in the customers mind as a viable petrol option.

Design and engineering:

The styling of the Indica Xeta was originally done by IDEA design house Italy. The idea(pun unintended) was to make sure the same platform is able to cater towards a hatch, a notch an estate and perhaps an SUV later! Tata has been able to achieve this even earlier with a good amount of success with its Sierra, Sumo, Mobile, Estate and so on.

The new revamped Indica V2 now has sports few more design cues in the form of flared wheel arches and some shinier lights. Tata has really worked its boots off to make sure that this car is a formidable rival to its Korean and Japanese competition. The design and styling of this small car means that it isn't all that small after all, its design idea translates to a body which is 3.7m long and 1.7m wide with a wheelbase of 2.4m.

Engine:

Tata Indica V2 XETA is powered by 1405cc, 32-bit microprocessor-controlled fuel injected petrol engine. The engine, which powers GLX variant of the car, churns out a power of 70 PS @ 4800 rpm and a maximum torque of 12.4 kgm @ 2600 rpm. The maximum power output for GL, GLE, GLS, GLG variants is 65.3 PS @ 5000-5200 rpm and the torque is 10.2 kgm @ 2600 rpm.

Interiors:

Tata Indica V2 XETA is a compact car that comes with a roomy cabin. The electronic instrument cluster looks classy, with two trip meters that are equipped with light intensity controls. Apart from this, the cabin is adorned with spot lamps, lamp in luggage compartment, front door map pocket, and all-doors operated cabin lamp. The rear seat of the car can be folded in order to increase the cargo space.

Ride And Handling:

The responsive, rack and pinion steering of Tata Indica V2 XETA allows effortless navigation through slow moving urban traffic as well as silky-smooth highways. The car's suspension system is tuned to precise functioning and perfect wheel balance, thereby improving the ride quality.

Safety:

Indica V2 XETA is equipped with all the safety features that are expected from a hatchback. The standard safety features of all the variants of Indica V2 XETA include child safety locks on rear doors, anti-submarine seats, collapsible steering column, headlamp leveler, provision for rear fog lamps, rear spoiler with high mounted stop lamp, and side intrusion beam on all four doors.
